“Global Food Security Today: The Urgency and Importance of Innovation”

Eriko Hibi
Director, The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Liaison Office in Japan

Ms. Hibi has more than 30 years of experience working with the United Nations. She joined FAO headquarters in 2011 as a Senior Strategy and Planning Officer. After that, she served as FAO Representative in Syria and later as Subregional Coordinator for the Pacific Islands and FAO Representative for 14 Pacific countries, based in Samoa. Since September 2020, she has been the Director of the FAO Liaison Office in Yokohama, Japan.
Before joining FAO, Ms. Hibi worked with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for nearly 16 years. During that time, she held several positions in Bangkok, New York, and Tashkent, covering programmes in Asia, the Pacific, Africa, and Central Asia.
A Japanese national, Ms. Hibi holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Reading, and a Bachelor of Laws from Sophia University.

国際連合食糧農業機関（FAO）駐日連絡事務所長

2020年9月13日付でFAO駐日連絡事務所長に就任。2011年にFAOへ入職し、ローマ本部戦略企画室にてシニア・オフィサーとして2年間勤務。その後、2013年からシリア事務所長、2016年からはサモア独立国アピアを拠点とするFAO大洋州事務所長として、大洋州14か国を担当した。
FAO入職以前は、国連人口基金（UNFPA）において、ニューヨーク本部、中央アジア5か国を管轄するウズベキスタン事務所、アジア太平洋地域事務所などに勤務。国連での職務経験は30年以上に及ぶ。
上智大学法学部卒業（法学士）。英国レディング大学大学院にて国際関係学修士号、米国ジョンズ・ホプキンス大学高等国際関係大学院（SAIS）にて国際関係学修士号を取得。
